Using Chiropractic Adjustment

Chiropractic adjustment (Spinal Manipulation)

Chiropractic adjustment refers to a procedure in which trained chiropractors use their hands or instruments to apply a controlled, impulsive force to a spinal joint. The main objective of spinal manipulation is to reduce vertebral subluxation and increase range of motion, thus reducing nerve irritability and improving body’s physical function. Generally, chiropractic adjustment usually involves:

  • A shorter lever arm thrust is applied to a vertebra
  • An accompanying joint activation caused by the release of oxygen, carbon dioxide, and nitrogen, which releases joint pressure
  • Relieving sensation

Why Get a Chiropractic Adjustment?

There are several factors which can lead to a vertebral subluxation. Generally, some of the common causes include:

  • Misalignment of the entire spine due to poor posture
  • Swelling of the joints normally caused by damage done to the intervertebral joints
  • Misalignment of the Vertebra because of a slip or fall
  • Degenerative changes of the spine
  • Tight back muscles and trigger points that pull the vertebra out of place
  • Inflammatory response due to poor diet, psychological stress or lack of pure water

Benefits of Chiropractic Adjustment

Completely restores motion in joints

It helps to restore movement to affected areas and which may be impinging nerves. The chiropractic adjustment usually helps by coaxing the muscles surrounding stiff joints to relax, thus restoring the normal mobility.

Helps the body function properly
These adjustments usually treat more than just localized pain. They can restore normal body function and movement, therefore affecting the overall ability to move with full strength.

Speeds pain relief
Chiropractors quickly identify the mechanical issues that cause spine-related pain and provide immediate relief with a series of adjustments.

Helps reduce stress
Stress can affect your overall well-being and make you lose concentration on your normal activities, which could lead to increased blood pressure. Basically, adjustments can help maintain a better overall health by speeding up recovery.

Works effectively for old trauma or new
It really doesn’t matter whether a patient has a recent back or neck injury, chiropractic adjustments provide quick and noticeable relief. The adjustments can even help reduce the pain and restore mobility in shoulders, hips, knees, and feet.

Side effects of chiropractic adjustments

The common side effect associated with adjustments is soreness or aching in the muscles or spinal joints. This usually occurs within the first few hours after treatment and doesn’t last longer than 1 day. If a patient experiences such side effect, an ice pack is applied to reduce the symptoms quickly.
